Deputy President David Mabuza will deliver the key note address at the memorial service in honour of late African National Congress stalwart Zola Skweyiya. Skweyiya died last week at the age of 75.

He served as Public Service and Administration Minister from 1994 to 1999 and then as Social Development Minister from 1999 to 2009. In 2009, Skweyiya was appointed South Africa’s High Commissioner to the UK and Ireland.

Mabuza once again extended his heartfelt condolences to the Skweyiya family and the ANC on the passing of one of South Africa’s most respected struggle veterans and human rights activist.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared a Special Official Funeral, Category 1 for  Skweyiya and ordered that the National Flag be flown at half-mast at all flag stations countrywide and at South African Diplomatic Missions abroad until Saturday evening, which is the day of the funeral.

Ramaphosa will deliver the eulogy at the Special Official Funeral service to be held at CRC church in Pretoria east. The official memorial service will be held at the Tshwane Events Centre on Wednesday.
