Limpopo Premier’s wife to be laid to rest

The funeral service for the wife of the Limpopo Premier, Margaret Mathabatha is being held at Serala View in Polokwane on Friday morning.

Mathabatha died last week after a short illness. She was 62.

The deceased became the patron of the First Lady Trust in 2013 when her husband Stan Mathabatha assumed the premiership.

A number of mouners including, Deputy President Paul Mashatile, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, various MECS and Mayors, community members are in attendance.

The funeral service is being held at Serala View Reform Church in Polokwane.

Mathabatha’s childhood friend, Thandi Phetlo, has described her a caring person.

“She was a selfless person and beauty with brains and the very dignified woman she also respected other people and was a prayerful woman.”

Selfless woman

Last week, the African National Congress (ANC) in the province described her as a selfless woman.

ANC Spokesperson Jimmy Machaka says, “Comrade Maggie Mathabatha was one of the women with an extra ordinary character. She was the patron of the Limpopo First Lady Trust; she was exemplified compassion and leadership. She is leaving an indelible mark on the socioeconomic landscape of the province. Her efforts to champion the rights and the well-being of disadvantaged individuals will forever be remembered by her family.”
