Dr Kgosi Letlape quits the ANC

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Health expert Dr Kgosi Letlape has parted ways with the African National Congress (ANC).

Letlape penned his resignation to his branch secretary on March 1, informing the ANC that he was leaving the liberation movement with immediate effect.

The ophthalmologist and healthcare leader is a former President of the Health Professions Council of South Africa, a founder of the Africa Medical Association, and a former chairman of the South African Medical Association.

He did not provide reasons for his decision to part ways with the governing party.

Last month, Letlape accused the government of forging ahead with the National Health Insurance (NHI) as a means to open another avenue of misappropriating funds.

He has also been outspoken about the issue of newly qualified doctors not being employed in the public healthcare sector.
