Protests have broken out again in Vrygrond in Cape Town. Residents are pelting cars with stones from inside the settlement.

Roads around the settlement have been closed due to the ongoing protests over land. Traffic spokesperson, Maxine Bezuidenhout, has advised motorists to use other routes.

“Prince George drive towards Muizenberg has been closed to traffic and that’s due to violent protest in the area, motorists were advised to utilise military road or the M3 as an alternative route.”

Law enforcement agencies are meanwhile monitoring the situation at Parkwood following violent protests over the past few days. The protests erupted when authorities moved into evict dwellers who’d illegally occupied land in the area.

The City of Cape Town says a local rent office was vandalised overnight. The situation is calm at the moment.
