Ramaphosa to deliver Keorapetse Kgositsile eulogy on Tuesday

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to deliver the eulogy during the special official funeral of the late Professor Keorapetse Kgositsile on Tuesday.  The funeral of the renowned professor and veteran activist, who passed away on the 3rd of January 2018, will be held at Marks Park in Emmerentia.

Professor Kgositsile was a recipient of the National Order of Ikamanga for his contribution to the field of literature and was inaugurated in 2006 as South Africa’s second National Poet Laureate.

He lived in several countries including the United States, Botswana, Tanzania and Kenya.  Upon his return to South Africa following the end of apartheid in 1994, Kgositsile worked with several academic and government institutions  He mentored countless prominent cultural practitioners, academics and political activists.

Several Memorial services were held in South Africa and New York to celebrate his life.

There will be a short service at his home in the morning, followed by the main service at Marks Park in Emmerentia where Deputy President will deliver the eulogy.

Kgositsile will be laid to rest at the West Park Cemetary Heroes Acre.
