KZN ANC fires two councillors at uKhahlamba Municipality

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has expelled two councillors in the uKhahlamba Municipality in the province’s midlands.

The councillors are alleged to have supported a failed motion of no confidence against municipal office bearers who were elected through a coalition between the ANC, the National Freedom Party (NFP) and the African People’s Movement (APM).

ANC Spokesperson in the Josiah Gumede Region, Bheki Khanyile says, “Those two councillors have been expelled from the ANC after they failed to take the mandate from the ANC and they even failed to come when the ANC called them to a meeting.”

“Hence the regional leadership then related the matter to the PEC which then took a decision. They were plotting against the Deputy Mayor who happens to be a deployee of the ANC as well as the whole leadership of the council,” Khanyile adds.

North West

In November, the ANC in the North West said drastic action will be taken against all suspected party councillors who colluded with opposition parties in council meetings and voted against the mandate of the party.

Some councillors are alleged to have voted in Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) Councillor Olebeng Mogorosi as the Speaker in the Mamusa Local Municipal Council and in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District, the EFF’s Tebogo Babuile was elected as a Mayor.
