The Premier Soccer League (PSL) Disciplinary Committee has rescheduled Kaizer Chiefs‘ disciplinary hearing. It’s been moved from the 3rd to the 9th of May.

Kaizer Chiefs are facing charges of misconduct and bringing the league into disrepute. The post-match chaos at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in April, drew widespread criticism.

Supporters invaded the pitch, assaulted fellow supporters and security officials after their Nedbank Cup fixture against Free State Stars.

They also set alight parts of the stadium and damaged property, including television equipment. The PSL also condemned the acts of violence and apologised.

“There’s no place, no justification for violence in football, or in our society. The damage that these senseless acts of violence cause takes more than a generation to correct. These acts are not coincidental. They are deliberate, pre-meditated and orchestrated by people whose aim is criminality and infringement of the majority who are peace loving and law abiding,” said Premier Soccer League Chairman, Irvin Khoza.

Violent scenes at football matches are becoming a common occurrence.

Orlando Pirates fans vented their anger after their team’s 6-0 defeat by Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria in 2017.

Two fans were killed when they forced their way into the FNB Stadium during the 2017 Soweto Derby involving Amakhosi and the Buccaneers.

Earlier in April, Chiefs fans pelted players and technical team members with objects after Amakhosi’s 3-0 loss to Chippa United.
