A 47-year-old suspect believed to be involved in dealing drugs is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday. The Hawks in KwaZulu-Natal seized drugs worth over R2.3 million in Durban on Saturday.

Hawks Spokesperson Simphiwe Mhlongo says an intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of the suspect.

“An intelligence-driven operation was conducted by Hawks members from the Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation. Working together with Crime Intelligence and Durban Metro Police Drug Team they arrested a 47-year-old suspect for dealing in drugs. Police received information about a suspect who was distributing heroin in various places in the province. An intelligence-driven operation was conducted at Glenwood and the suspect was caught red-handed carrying a bag leaving his place of residence. He was stopped and searched. Upon searching the bag, police found packs of pure heroin powder to the street value of approximately R2 340 000.00. He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged for dealing in drugs.”

Also in Durban, a 42-year-old suspect has been arrested for dealing in drugs worth R12 000 in the Durban CDB. The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.

Police Spokesperson Thembeka Mbhele says, “Ongoing operations by the police to root out drug trafficking yielded positive results as one suspect was arrested for dealing with drugs in the Durban CBD. Yesterday afternoon, members of the Provincial drug and firearm unit conducted an operation in a park, which is situated under the M4 Freeway, near the Saint Andrews Street Taxi Rank. During the operation, one who man was searched, was found in possession of 260 plastic loops of heroin, 30 pieces of rock cocaine and 47 capsules of heroin. The suspect will appear at Durban Magistrate’s Court facing possession and dealing in drugs charges.”
