Gunshots fired during soccer match in KZN

Several gunshots were fired during a match at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.

It is alleged chaos erupted after the home province team uMsinga United was beaten 1-0 by the North West’s Orbit College.

Fans, match officials and players ran for cover which led to the injury of several people including technical team members.

It is alleged that match officials were pelted with stones and chased away by an angry mob of supporters.

The game was a crucial second semi-final clash by the third tier of South African football clubs to gain promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship and a spot in the National Playoffs final on Sunday.
