The five kilometre walk is dedicated to remove the stigma around suicide and self-harm.

The Global Darkness into Light walk is taking place this Saturday morning at 200 venues in 19 countries, including Cape Town.

Organised by an Irish global movement called Pieta, the five kilometre walk is dedicated to removing the stigma around suicide and self-harm.

Funds raised from the walk help keep the organisation’s counselling services free of charge and support their charity partners around the world.

Pieta was established in Dublin 13-years ago and now has 15 centres across Ireland.

Local organiser, Debra Sowter, say people struggling with mental illness should know support is available.
