The Gautrain Management Agency’s new CEO, Tshepo Kgobe, says they have started the second phase of their plans to build new stations around Randburg and Soweto.

In 2021, the Gauteng government announced that it would proceed with the introduction of more Gautrain routes to areas, including townships.

This is in a bid to reduce traffic in some areas of the province.

Kgobe says they have done the route determination.

“So the new stations are Randburg, Cosmo Junction, Little Falls, Roodepoort, and then Jabulani station in Soweto. That, in itself, is going to change the phase of the West. If you look at a lot of areas in and around Roodepoort, they have gone into a dilapidated state, and once you set up a station in that area there, you will be able to set up in such a way that you re-develop the areas themselves.”
