Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane has condemned in the strongest terms the killing of a Johannesburg Metro Police Department Inspector, Ayanda Zulu, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The officer was shot dead by two suspects outside her home in Palm Springs, south of Johannesburg. The suspects fled the scene with her 9mm pistol. Inspector Ayanda Zulu was stationed in Region D, Soweto.

Gauteng Community Safety spokesperson Ofentse Morwane says they are appalled by the brutal killing.

“The MEC for Community Safety has expressed concern that we cannot afford a situation where the people who are supposed to protect the law abiding citizens in the province are themselves killed by these criminals. It is a worrying trend that is gradually rearing its ugly head and therefore the MEC for Community Safety has expressed concern and urged the law enforcement fraternity to deal with this matter decisively.”
