Five killed after bakkie overturned on N2 in Eastern Cape

Five people died after the bakkie they were travelling in overturned on the N2 near Betshwana in Mount Ayliff in the Eastern Cape. The crash happened early on Monday.

The spokesperson of the provincial Transport Department, Unathi Bhinqose says the driver of the bakkie lost control of the vehicle before it overturned.

One person was injured in the crash and taken to hospital.

Binqose says there were six people in the bakkie.  “Yes, we can confirm that sadly five people have lost their lives in that accident which happened on the N2 between Kokstad and EMaxesibeni. The accident happened around six o’clock in the morning when a bakkie with six occupants lost its control and overturned killing five people on impact including the driver. We wish to urge our people to be always extra cautious on the roads to avoid accidents like this one.”
