FF Plus leader Pieter Groenewald says the proposed amendment poses a threat to the agricultural sector, private land ownership and the economy.

The Freedom Front Plus says it will oppose the ANC’s proposal to amend the constitution to allow for the expropriation of land without compensation.

The ruling party took the resolution on Wednesday, the last day of its National Conference in Johannesburg.

FF Plus leader Pieter Groenewald says the proposed amendment poses a threat to the agricultural sector, private land ownership and the economy.

He says while he recognises the ANC’s claim that expropriation won’t affect the agricultural economy, there’s still no clear outline of how the proposed expropriation will happen without negative impact on the economy.

“I hear what it is said that it must have no negative effect on the economy or food security and that’s part of the resolution. The fact of the matter is – what’s the definition of negative effect. The way I know Mr Cyril Ramaphosa – he is a master when it comes to emphasise the good side of any decision. As they say in English  ‘the devil is in the detail’ and that’s what the Freedom Front Plus wants to know.”
