Parliament’s Ethics Committee has resolved not to make a finding against Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema in relation to the now defunct VBS Mutual Bank.

Parliament says the complaint was referred to the committee in 2019 by Democratic Alliance (DA) leader, John Steenhuisen.

He alleged that Malema had breached the code as it related to the Venda Mutual Bank scandal.

The committee, however, is to recommend to the National Assembly that EFF Chief Whip Floyd Shivambu be fined nine days salary after it found that he breached the Code of Ethical Conduct and Disclosure of Members’ Interests.

The committee found that Shivambu failed to disclose payments to him from the Sgameka Venda Mutual Bank Society to the tune of R180 000.

The committee says the monies were paid through a company called Sgameka Projects in 2017.

It says this was identified through an affidavit from the liquidators of VBS.
