Eskom implements stage 2 rolling blackouts

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Eskom has announced the implementation of Stage 2 rolling blackouts from 8h00 am Sunday morning. The decision follows a temporary suspension of rolling blackouts earlier this morning.

The country has recently experienced Stage 6 rolling blackouts for the majority of the past week, leading to significant disruptions in electricity supply.

Eskom Crisis Communication Manager, Menzi Mngomezulu updates, “Load shedding was suspended at 01:35 this morning. The pumped storage dam levels have been adequately replenished for the week ahead. Diesel levels at the OCGT power stations have improved but remain low. Therefore, Stage 2 load shedding will be implemented from 08:00 until 16:00 today, followed by Stage 4 load shedding until 05:00 on Monday…”

The power utility has assured the public that they will continue to monitor the power supply and publish updates whenever significant changes occur. The utility says it is working diligently to address the power crisis and minimise the impact on households, businesses, and essential services.

South Africans are urged to conserve electricity during this period and to stay informed about the latest updates from Eskom. The rolling blackouts highlight the ongoing challenges faced by Eskom in maintaining a stable and reliable power supply, emphasising the need for long-term solutions to ensure energy security in the country.
