Eleven licencing officials have been apprehended in Gauteng, the Free State, and Mpumalanga on charges of fraud and corruption.
The arrests follow a three-year investigation known as Operation Catfish.
The operation identified examiners who allegedly fraudulently issued drivers’ licences and roadworthy certificates at various testing stations.
Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) spokesperson Simon Zwane says the suspects in the Free State are expected to appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
“The majority of the arrested officials are based at Lengau Testing Centre in Bloemfontein. All the suspects are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court tomorrow. Investigations are continuing and more arrests should be expected,” says Zwane.
