Defence to continue with Thwala’s cross-examination in Meyiwa trial

Reading Time: 2 minutes

State witness Mthokozisi Thwala is expected back in the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria when the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial continues on Friday morning.

Thwala, who was a close friend of the late soccer star, was one of the people present when Meyiwa was gunned down at the Vosloorus home of the mother of singer Kelly Khumalo in October 2014.

Five men are currently on trial for the murder.

Defence lawyer, Zithulele Nxumalo on Thursday accused Thwala of lying that two intruders had entered the house on that fateful night.

Nxumalo: “I put it to you that the deceased was shot at by one of the people inside the house, obviously not the children and he didn’t shoot at himself. There was no robbery there and he was not shot at by one of the intruders.”

Thwala: “Hence I’m saying that is not the truth. Two people entered the house. As I have been saying … that we are going to be here for a long time. I have absolutely no reason to defend anyone that was in the house. Because I have no business with them over my friend. At the end, there were two intruders.”
