De Lille will be welcomed to join us: ANC

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Western Cape African National Congress (ANC) says Cape Town Mayor PatricIa De Lille is free to join the party if she so wishes in the near future, although no formal invitation has been extended to her in this regard.

De Lille’s political future in the Democratic Alliance (DA) is uncertain following allegations of misconduct in the City of Cape Town.

She faces charges of mismanagement relating to a cover up.

De Lille recently survived a motion of no confidence against her in the City of Cape Town with the help of the ANC caucus.

She says reports that she is talking to the ANC are all speculation.

They were fuelled by her hugging of President Cyril Ramaphosa at the recent Cape Town International Jazz Festival this past weekend.

Acting Western Cape ANC leader Khaya Magaxa would not give much away when asked about De Lille joining the ANC.

“If Miss Patricia De Lille finds herself joining us, everybody in the ANC will welcome her but you have to subscribe to the ideas of non-racialism, non sexism and become a democratic South African.”

Meanwhile De Lille says, “It is my duty when the President visits my City to have a courtesy greet and welcome the President, and that is what is I did Saturday night, like I did with many other ministers that were there from all over the country.”
