COPE promises to restore dignity of Eersterus coloured community

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Congress of the People (COPE)  took its electoral campaign to the predominantly coloured community of Eersterus in Tshwane. The party promised to restore the dignity of the coloured community.

The party was conducting a door-to-door campaign in the east Pretoria township. Eersterus community members went on a string of service deliver protests last year.

Top on their list of demands was decent housing. Now, months later, all that has changed is the higher number of family members living in two-roomed houses.

Added unemployment challenges have also created a community living in despair and an environment conducive to drug abuse and crime.

COPE says the government has failed its people. The party says it is time people change who they vote for. While some welcomed the idea of changing their colours, others say they have been left out in the cold for far too long.

COPE has also promised to ensure better houses are built for communities such as this if it garners enough seats in Parliament.
