City of Ekurhuleni accused of failing to deliver basic services

The African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC) member Njabulo Nzuza has accused the City of Ekurhuleni of not delivering basic services to communities.

This comes as the ANC commemorates the 30th anniversary of the death of the struggle icon and former ANC president Oliver Reginald Tambo.

Municipal officials on Monday gathered at the OR Tambo Memorial Site, where the icon is buried, to clean the cemetery. Grass has sprouted on the memorial site.

Ndzuza says this is a result of instability in the Ekurhuleni council.

“We have been saying that the situation here in Ekurhuleni has deteriorated over time with the changes in leadership and everything that has been going on. This is an example of such a situation. We had actually requested that here services be provided early, we had to come in ourselves as an organization to make sure that we clean up. It is the responsibility of the local municipality, and you know that the concerns we’ve been raising about the municipality delivering services, this should have not been the situation.”
