City of Durban hosts the continent’s first ever World Football Summit

The City of Durban will host the continent’s first ever World Football Summit. It’s expected to have 700 attendees from 50 nations.

Discussions during the summit will focus on the legacy of the FIFA World Cup, talent development and new technologies.

Durban is said to be Africa’s playground by hosting yet another important conference. This time, the World Football Summit just a day before it starts.

La Liga which is also one of the main sponsors for the World Football Summit has announced that it has partnered with KwaZulu-Natal government.

Part of the memorandum of understanding include administrative skills transfer and running of La Liga camps in the province that will focus on schools sport and football from grassroots level.

“The partnership is a first of its kind by La Liga in Africa and growing football from grassroots level, and providing knowledge. The objective is to develop for future generations,” says Marcos Pelegrin, Managing Director for LA Liga in Southern Africa.

“The partnership is not just about football but a huge economic driver. Skills will be transferred by importing legends from La Liga to be part of the development of soccer in KZN’s rural and township areas,” says  Thobile Sifunda from the KwaZulu-Natal department of sports and culture.

The two-day summit kicks off on Wednesday at the Durban ICC.
