Chris Hani’s widow rejects MK party, decries abuse of family name

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The widow of struggle stalwart Chris Hani, Limpho, has taken issue with what she says is the abuse of the family name by several individuals, including Eastern Cape uMkonto we Sizwe Party convenor, Pumlani Kubekile.

The others are three women who have claimed to be Hani’s daughters.

In a statement, Hani says members and agents of the MK party are not allowed anywhere near the gravesite of her late husband, nor may they make use of any symbols related to Hani.

Kubekile, the former driver of the freedom fighter, has backed the claims of the women who say they are Hani’s daughters.

Limpho Hani has labelled Kubekile a fraudster.

“Government has betrayed my family”

The South African government has betrayed my family,” a statement made by the widow following the release of Hani’s killer, Janusz Walus, in April last year.

In his ruling, Chief Justice Raymond Zondo said: “The decision of the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services made in March 2020, rejecting the applicant’s application for parole, is reviewed and set aside. The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services is ordered to place the applicant on parole on such terms and conditions, as he may deem appropriate and to take all such steps as may need to be taken to ensure that the applicant is released on parole within 10 calendar days from the date of this order.”

Labelling the release a betrayal, the Chief Justice was not spared by Limpho Hani on the 30th anniversary of the assassination of her husband.
