Cape Town City want to end the year on a high note

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Cape Town City Captain Thamsanqa Mkhize says the Mother City outfit wants to end 2019 on a high note when they play Bidvest Wits at the Dobsonville Stadium on Friday night.

It has been a difficult season for the 13th-placed side, who have struggled in the Absa Premiership this season.

That form led to the departure of coach Benni McCarthy, and the club is still seeking their first win under new head coach Jan Olde Riekerink. Friday’s game will be Riekerink’s fourth game on the bench, and Mkhize says that Wits will be tough opponents.

Mkhize says they are going to Dobsonville to win the game, and want to keep playing the attacking brand of football that City has become synonymous with.

Mkhize says that pressure is part and parcel of competitive sport, but he feels confident in the team, especially after a successful training game this past week against neighbours Stellenbosch. – Report by Rob Delport
