Thamsanqa Mkhize the big winner at Cape Town City awards

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Cape Town City captain Thamsanqa Mkhize was the big winner at the club’s annual awards held on Monday night.

Mkhize was named both Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the season at the club event.

Gift Links was named as the Most Improved Player of the Season, while Zukile Kewuti was named Rookie of the Season.

But it was Mkhize who was the man of the hour, and he says is very proud to be recognised by his team-mates and club.

Mkhize says it is unbelievable to think back on how much has happened since he joined City three seasons.

Mkhize seized his opportunity when he joined City in 2016, and is the club’s most capped player. He says that when he joined City he knew he had to just focus on giving his all.

Mkhize says there is still more to come from, and he will not be resting on his laurels, and says his coach Benni McCarthy will keep pushing him to improve.

The 30-year-old says he also believes it his responsibility to help his team-mates improve, especially younger players like Keanu Cupido and Zukile Kewuti, who have been regulars for City this season.

Mkhize says that they can learn from the example of Teko Modise, who just announced his retirement, and he says Modise has helped every player at City. – Report by Rob Delport
