Former African National Congress (ANC) Eastern Cape Provincial Treasurer Babalo Madikizela has vowed to save the province from further deterioration. He has told the delegates backing him for the position of the provincial chair that the Eastern Cape has deteriorated under the current chair and Premier Oscar Mabuyane.

The two are vying for the ANC Provincial leadership at the elective conference set to start tomorrow.

Madikizela was addressing hundreds of his delegates who have arrived in East London for the three day gathering.

Madikizela says the time has come for them to decide on whether to change the status quo or continue on a downward spiral.

The registration process for the 9th elective conference of the ANC in the Eastern Cape commences today in East London.

More than 1 500 voting delegates are expected to take part in the conference this weekend. Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane, Babalo Madikizela and Mlibo Qoboshiyane  are vying for the position of chairperson.

Party spokesperson, Gift Ngqondi, says they are expecting a smooth registration process.

“The registration is going to continue up until in the evening. We don’t want to experience any glitches. Tomorrow, there wont  be any registration. All delegates will be expected to be sitting at 8:30 at ICC to start the conference. I must say that security will be very tight. We have dedicated the security that is going to be committed to ensure that there is safety for all delegates attending the conference.”
