Political parties in Maluti-A-Phofung municipality have reached an agreement on forming a coalition government, pushing the ANC to opposition benches in the embattled municipality in the Free State.

The MAP16, EFF, Dikwankwetla, ATM, AIC and SARKO are parties that will lead the municipality with the support of the DA and FF Plus. MAP-16’s Gilbert Mokotso is earmarked for the mayoral position, Moeketsi Lebesa of Dikwankwetla for Chief Whip and MAP 16’s Paratlane Motloung for speaker.

Addressing a press briefing in QwaQwa, parties say they want to restore the dignity of the people of Maluti-A-Phofung. The municipality has been experiencing chronic water shortages and power outages. The council is expected to sit next week to elect office-bearers.
