The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African National Congress (ANC) is expected to hold a special meeting on Sunday. The virtual meeting  is expected to focus on discussions on last minute logistics of the upcoming policy conference scheduled to take place sometime in the year.

Also expected is discussions regarding the preparatory document for the conference on when it should take place, as some leagues in the ANC, including the Women’s League and the Youth League, are yet to hold their long overdue national elective conference.

The ANC Eastern Cape Elective Conference set for the 6 – 8 May

The step aside policy of the ANC is likely to be discussed in the wake of the re-election of Zandile Gumede as the eThekwini Regional Chairperson, while facing criminal charges.

The meeting also takes place following new information, that two witnesses have dropped their statements in the murder case facing ANC Mpumalanga newly elected Treasurer, Mandla Msibi, who had since stepped aside.

A busy year indeed for the ANC. Time is running out for the party to hold its policy conference which has to take place in between national conferences.

In its last NEC meeting, the party assigned top six leaders to deal with the conviction of ANC Women’s League president, Bathabile Dlamini and a report of their meeting is likely to be tabled in the meeting.

She is yet to step aside following her sentencing by the Johannesburg Magistrate Court.
