ANC leaders are responsible for ensuring unity: Mkhize

Reading Time: < 1 minute

ANC Presidential hopeful Dr Zweli Mkhize says it is the responsibility of all leaders of the ruling party to work together to ensure unity in the organisation.

Mkhize, who’s the ruling party’s Treasurer General, is one of the hopefuls aiming to become the next ANC president.

The national conference starts on Saturday in Nasrec‚ Johannesburg.

The favourites to succeed President Jacob Zuma are ANC MP Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Mkhize explains, “At the end of the day, it is the responsibility of each and everyone of the leaders of the ANC to collectively work together for the unity of the organisation. After all, because of the campaigns and the debates in the media, it sometimes looks like we are talking about people who are in different organisations. But the crux of the matter is that all the candidates are serving together. They meet every now and again as colleagues and sit in one committee and there is no hostility. So, I think what is important is to try and manage the excitement that is to come inevitably when we have to select leaders, but we all have a responsibility to be united.”
