ANC in the lead after just over 1.3 million votes counted

Reading Time: < 1 minute

With just over 1.3 million votes counted, the African National Congress (ANC) is leading the national race with 53.35%, the Democratic Alliance (DA) with 27.66% and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) with 7.68%.

This after more than 3 100 voting districts has declared.

SABC News Specialist Researcher, Ronesh Dawraj says, “I think thus far you know the big ones are obviously Gauteng because there are talks of the ANC possibly dropping below that 50% mark, and the other big one is that the DA will retain the Western Cape or will it form below 50% as well. Another one very closely watched is, of course, the Northern Cape. There is speculation that KZN might fall below that 50% mark and smaller parties might be instrumental in a possible coalition in that province.”
