AmaZulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has appointed the mayor of the Zululand District Municipality, Thulasizwe Buthelezi, as his traditional prime minister.

This follows the death of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi last year.

The Zulu monarch announced this at the commemoration of the Battle of Isandlwana in Nquthu, in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

Inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza of the Amadunge Clan was also announced as the deputy prime minister.

“In the position of deputy traditional prime minister, I am announcing Inkosi Chiliza. Can I ask him to come forward, please? Inkosi Chiliza worked very well with the previous king. And he was a dedicated, committed, and trustworthy person. And he was able to run the house of traditional leaders in the province successfully.”

AmaZulu King commemorates 145 years of the Battle of Isandlwana:
