Alleged petrol bomb bus attackers to appear in court

Five people arrested in connection with the petrol-bomb attack which claimed six lives on a bus carrying mine workers near Burgersfort in Limpopo are expected to make their first court appearance at the Mecklenburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday morning.

The incident happened on Monday evening.

They face charges of murder, attempted murder and malicious damage to property.

They attacked a bus carrying 52 mine workers. 28 workers are still being treated in hospital.

Police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo says the five suspects aged between 21 and 30 were arrested after an intensive investigation.

Mojapelo says they were arrested at five different locations.

Meanwhile, the process to identify the six deceased mine workers is expected to be completed soon.

Police say more arrests are imminent.
