Alfred Nzo District council speaker passes on

The Alfred Nzo District Municipality has expressed shock at the sudden death of its council Speaker, Simthembile Kulu.

He passed away in a car accident on Monday afternoon between Kokstad and EmaXesibeni.

It is reported that his driver collided head-on with a polo, and sadly he and the polo driver died on impact while Kulu’s driver was rushed to hospital.

Alfred Nzo spokesperson Lixolile Petela described Kulu as a leader who put the people of Alfred Nzo first.

“As the Alfred Nzo district municipality, we are saddened and shocked by the sudden loss of our Speaker, councillor Simthembile Kulu who tragically lost his life in an accident that took place between My Ayliff and Kokstad yesterday at around one o’clock in the afternoon. We are deeply saddened. It’s a very sad loss. Tat’uKulu was a very dedicated servant of the people.”

In a statement issued on Facebook, Petela further says: “As the people of Alfred Nzo we have lost a father, a leader and a unifying figure amongst ourselves. Cllr Kulu was a great visionary leader, humble servant of the Masses and a man of great stature, who stood firm on the principles of freedom and democracy.”

The district says details of his funeral arrangements will be shared in due course once the family has given the green light.
