Civil rights group, AfriForum says steps will be taken against municipalities that are not fulfilling their duty in providing sustainable services to communities.
AfriForum earlier won a case in the North West High Court in Mahikeng compelling the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality to take over all the functions of water provision and distribution from the Tswaing Local Municipality which had failed for years to provide water to its residents.
Manager of community structures for AfriForum Corne’ Cronje says this is a great victory.

“This is a great victory for AfriForum and the community after the community had suffered for water delivery for years. We cannot allow poor municipal service delivery to violate people. Everyone has a right to cleaning water and that is why we will continue to take action against municipalities that do not provide their services in a sustainable way.”
