The six suspects accused of killing Gauteng Health Department whistleblower Babita Deokaran will return to the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Deokaran was gunned down outside her Johannesburg home in August last year. The senior official at the department was a key witness in an investigation into tender fraud related to the procurement of personal protective equipment.

The six suspects referred to as the Deokaran 6 are expected to return to the dock Monday morning. They were all denied bail last year. The group each retracted their confessions stating they were given under duress.

Accused number one also alleged former health minister Zweli Mkhize was part of the plot.

He later retracted that during his bail application. The indictment is expected to be served and the matter transferred to the Johannesburg High Court for trial.
