Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Nathaniel Julies murder trial will continue in the High Court sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court in Ekurhuleni on Thursday morning.

Three police officers are standing trial for the murder of Julies.

The 16-year-old boy with Down Syndrome was shot dead allegedly by the police in Eldorado Park in August last year.

Eyewitness Tahirah Kaldine testified that she and her friend were walking from a local shop when they saw Julies standing by a truck eating something.

She says that’s when a police van drove past a block of flats and emerged minutes later to park near the truck where Julies was standing.

She told the court that within minutes, she saw someone in the police van in uniform shoot at Julies before taking his limp body away in their vehicle.

Colonel James Chauke then took the stand as a state witness.

He testified that when he arrived at the scene of the crime, he was told that his members had come under fire and had responded by firing rubber bullets.
