Motorists on R56 between Elliot and Ugie urged to be vigilant amid strong winds

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The debris of the two trucks and bakkie that were blown over by strong winds on the R56 road between Ugie and Elliot in the Eastern Cape has been removed.

The vehicles then caught fire from the raging veld fire that was fanned by the strong winds in the area.

Cold and wet temperatures from last night also played a role in extinguishing the blaze.

Smoke can still be seen from tree logs that are still burning. Small patches of snow can be seen in the nearby mountainous areas.

The low and wet temperatures brought relief to the farming community as the veld fire posed danger to livestock and plantations.

The roads are now clear of smoke and motorists are advised to be cautious as the wind is still blowing.
