Investigations are under way into the cause of a bus crash in which 28 people were killed and 30 others injured at the Kei Cuttings between East London and Butterworth in the Eastern Cape on Monday.
The bus was travelling from Cape Town to Mthatha when it overturned. Six people who sustained serious injuries were taken to hospitals in East London.

Twenty-four others sustained minor injuries. Provincial Transport spokesperson Unathi Binqose says they are now attempting to identify the deceased.
“MEC for transport in the Eastern Cape Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe extends her condolences to those families that have lost their loved ones. The next process now is that of identifying those who have perished in that accident and we are calling on those whose family members were on board that bus to come forward and join us as we begin this process.”
The Road traffic management Corporation also dispatched investigators to the accident scene.

Binqose added: “The majority of the bodies of those who perished in the accident have been kept at a mortuary in East London.”
