President Cyril Ramaphosa says at least over 7.5 million South Africans have received their COVID-19 vaccination since the start of the country’s vaccination rollout programme.

He said this in his weekly letter to the nation.

After visiting two vaccination sites in Gauteng last Thursday, Ramaphosa says he is encouraged at the number of South Africans who are embracing a need to be vaccinated.

He says so far, the Department of Health is vaccinating on average 220 000 people a day and this could increase with the arrival of more vaccine doses in the coming weeks.

Over the past weekend, a donation of over 5,6 million Pfizer vaccines from the US government began arriving in the country.

This is part of a donation of vaccines from the US President, Joe Biden administration to African countries and low- and middle-income countries in other parts of the world.
