Expectant mothers advised against inducing labour

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Expectant mothers have been advised to allow the natural processes of pregnancy and delivery to occur on their own to avoid unnecessary complications.

Mother and Child Clinical Manager at Tembisa Provincial Hospital, Relebogile Ncha says there has been an increase in the number of incidents where mothers drink concoctions to induce labour.

It is believed they are in a hurry to deliver so they can spend the festive season at home.

Ncha has warned that this could lead to the death of the child and also cause irreparable damage to their womb.

“Firstly, what we require from our patients is that they need to be honest with us, and tell us everything that they’ve either taken or done to themselves so we can know how to manage these cases. It’s very difficult for us as clinicians and as the hospital to manage what we don’t know because when complications arise, then you’re trying to figure our what went wrong and yet the mom (with) held information from us that could have assisted us in managing them properly.”
