’12 ANC witnesses’ should testify at state capture: Maimane

Reading Time: 2 minutes

DA Leader Mmusi Maimane wants the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture to call what he describes as “12 ANC witnesses” including President Cyril Ramaphosa to testify.

Maimane says the DA lawyers have written to the Zondo Commission giving reasons why the 12 should be called as witnesses.

They include President Ramaphosa, his Deputy David Mabuza, Mineral Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe and former President Jacob Zuma.

In the lawyers letter send to the Commission Secretary Khotso De Wee, the DA wants President Ramaphosa to appear to explain whether he had any knowledge about the role of former President Zuma and Ministers in alleged State Capture.

The DA wants former Finance Minister Des Van Rooyen who was in the position for a few days to testify. They also want Home Affairs Minster Malusi Gigaba to testify due to his alleged role in the naturalisation of the Gupta family.

Other people who Maimane want them to testify are suspended SARS Commissioner Tom Moyane, ANC Deputy Secretary General Jessie Duarte, Arthur Fraser, David Mahlobo, Mosebenzi Zwane and Lynn Brown.

He says Mantashe and Duarte were already implicated by Standard Bank at the hearings.

He also says Mabuza still has to come clean about his 2015 trip to Moscow on a Gupta owned aircraft when he was still Mpumalanga Premier.
