The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in North West says it will exert more pressure on Premier Supra Mahumapelo to remove Health HOD Thabo Lekalakala.

This follows revelations that his department allegedly paid a Gupta-linked company R30 million prior to providing any service to the department.

The company, Mediosa, also allegedly paid for his trip to India to apparently view the mobile clinic vehicles. The EFF was picketing outside Mahikeng provincial hospital in Mahikeng.

EFF leader in North West Betty Diale says they are giving Premier Mahumapelo two weeks to ensure that Lekalakala is out of office.

“We are not going to rest. We have told the Premier even in our debate yesterday (Wednesday), the HOD must be removed from his place. We are not going to wait for investigation to go ahead before he is suspended. The evidence is clear, we have got invoices, we have opened a case with the Hawks the man must simply be removed from his employment. We have even indicated to the Premier that we are aware that Mediosa is a Gupta-linked company. We are going to stop all processes with regard to the contract of Mediosa.”

Meanwhile, Mahumapelo told the media on Wednesday that the process regards suspending the HOD will start next week.
