Dozens of motorists in Johannesburg will spend Christmas Day behind bars after being arrested for speeding, reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol this long weekend.
The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) says officers will be visible on roads to ensure that those who disobey the rules of the road are brought to book.
“The Johannesburg metro police department has been out in numbers, this past weekend we had quite a number of people who were arrested for high speed as well as drinking and driving. We are warning all the motorists and citizens to say please enjoy responsibly and don’t drink and drive and don’t drink and walk because you might be a danger to other road users” says spokesperson Edna Mamonyane.
