Ramaphosa mourns the passing of President Geingob

President Cyril Ramaphosa says he is deeply saddened by the passing of Namibian President Hage Geingob.

Ramaphosa extended his condolences to the the family and the people of Namibia.

President Geingob passed away while undergoing medical treatment at Lady Pohamba Hospital in Windhoek, Namibia.

Ramaphosa says, “Today, South Africa joins the people of Namibia in mourning the passing of a leader, patriot and friend of South Africa.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Geingob family and the people of Namibia who have lost an outstanding leader in a year in which Namibia, like South Africa, is due to hold elections. I am deeply saddened at this time as I reflect on the privilege I had in October 2023 to be hosted by President Geingob, Madame Geingob and the cabinet on a working visit to Namibia.”

Surrounded by his family, President Geingob took his last breath , prompting an immediate response from the government.

Acting President Dr Nangolo Mbumba announced that the cabinet would convene promptly to organise funeral arrangements.

Having grown up as a member of SWAPO, Geingob played a pivotal role in Namibia’s journey to independence. This year, Namibia was set to witness elections, with Geingob expected to hand over power after completing two terms in office.
