Meyiwa Trial | Gininda vehemently denies offering R3 mln to Ntanzi

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Lead investigator Brigadier Bongani Gininda has denied he offered accused number 2 Bongani Ntanzi R3 million to implicate the right people in the soccer star’s murder.

This emerged during cross-examination of Gininda by Ntanzi’s lawyer Thulani Mngomezulu in the trial within a trial at the Senzo Meyiwa murder case.

Ntanzi and four others are on trial for the murder of the Bafana Bafana captain who was shot and killed in 2014, while at singer Kelly Khumalo’s parental home in Vosloorus on Gauteng’s East Rand.

The defence is challenging the admissibility of the confession statements allegedly made by some of the accused.

Gininda has refuted the claims.

“I’m shocked that a police officer can offer a suspect or the accused persons three million. It is absolute lies, there is no budget of three million. And my unit has no such budget and even if there was, the accused cooperated with me on the 18th, he told me that he is going to make a statement freely and voluntarily.”

The defence has requested for the transcripts and recordings of Ntanzi’s appearance in a different court in October 2020 to be played in court.

Heads of arguments on the matter will be heard before a ruling on the recordings can be made.
