Colonel Hadebe’s cross examination continues in Meyiwa trial

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The cross-examination of Lieutenant Colonel Nkosinathi Hadebe is expected to continue in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial today.

Yesterday, the court heard that accused number 1 Muzi Sibiya was assaulted and coerced into pointing out a certain area.

Sibiya’s lawyer, Advocate Thulani Mngomezulu, told Hadebe that his client would deny that he made the pointing out willingly.

Hadebe conducted the pointings out with Sibiya on 5 June 2020.

He is the latest witness in the trial within a trial to establish whether the alleged confessions and pointing out should be admissible in the main trial.

Advocate Mngomezulu said: “I was instructed to inform you that when he was arrested he was assaulted and suffocated. During the assault, Colonel Mbotho came with documents for the accused to sign. He said if you do not sign, the beating will continue. Do you have knowledge of that?”

Hadebe responded: “No My Lord I do not have knowledge.”
