Almost 50 motor vehicle crashes have been reported in Johannesburg alone in the past 24 hours.

Johannesburg Emergency Services says most of the collisions occurred due to the heavy rain which reduced visibility on the roads.

Motorists have been advised to exercise extreme caution and keep a safe following distance to avoid being involved in accidents.

EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says, “There were a number of motor vehicle accidents which were reported. We are encouraging our motorists to be extra cautious while driving in the rain.”

More rain has been forecast for Wednesday.
