President Cyril Ramaphosa has landed in Toronto, Canada, to begin the first leg of his visit to that country, which will later take him to the G7 summit in Quebec as part of its outreach segment.

Ramaphosa, who is accompanied by his Environment Minister Edna Molewa, will meet with investors and business leaders in Toronto as part of his major investment drive for the country, before taking a short flight to the G7 venue Quebec and onto the summit venue in Charlevoix, starting with a private dinner later on Friday.

Saturday’s outreach segment of the summit with invited world leaders will focus on the oceans economy and conservation of the high seas, one of the major elements of the Sustainable Development Goals and recognised as an important growth pole for the country through its Operation Phakisa that aims to create one million new jobs and add billions to the country’s GDP.

Ramaphosa arrives amidst high tensions between G7 leaders over tariffs imposed by Washington on metal imports, even on the country’s closest allies who are enraged. The G6 are expected to push back when President Donald Trump arrives later on Friday for the beginning of the summit.
