Ramaphosa heads to Geneva for Global Commission

President Cyril Ramaphosa will be heading to Geneva, Switzerland, on Tuesday to kick-off his duties as co-chair of the Global Commission on the Future of Work.

President Ramaphosa was appointed earlier this month to co-chair the commission, alongside with the Prime Minister of Sweden, Stevan Lofven.

This body which was established by the United Nation’s International Labour Organization seeks to focus on the world’s response to the 4th industrial revolution amid concerns of job losses.

South Africa’s Ambassador to Switzerland, Nozipho Mxakato-Diseko says the Commission could not have chosen a better person to co-chair its sittings because Ramaphosa has vast knowledge of what are some of the challenges facing the work-force.

“So this is a very huge undertaking and responsibility  the president has been asked to do and we grateful that he did not hesitate because he has the skills embodying as he does the tripartism of labour because he has been a trade unionist, he has been an employer…he is now in government. It’s all those elements that must now shape the responsibilities that give us a sense of certainty.”
