Mpumalanga residents walk for cancer awareness

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Residents of Nelsville near Mbombela, Mpumalanga have participated in a five kilometres walk earlier on Saturday morning to create awareness about childhood cancer.

Tebogo Moya started the Melus’omuhle Foundation after she lost her six year-old daughter to cancer.

Moya says her daughter battled with cancer for four years before she lost the fight.

She established the Foundation to teach communities about cancer which affects children.

Moya says many communities still lack information about cancer and its early symptoms.

“I’m still feeling that there are lot of people who don’t know that kids get cancer.  In our African communities and traditions, there is still stigma around cancer. People are saying it is not cancer because there is no information, nobody is making awareness. When you see certain recurring symptoms, make sure that you ask your doctor to test your child properly,” adds Moya.
